Because
the feet work in conjunction with the legs, knees, hips and back, foot
problems can lead to muscle tension elsewhere in the body and this in
turn can intensify fatigue and irritability.
Kansa
Vatki is a traditional Ayurvedic (*) Foot Massage in which a metal bowl
containing copper and zinc is rubbed over the feet and lower limbs, with
particular emphasis on Marma (**) points and the areas of the principle
Chakras (***). This helps to balance the Doshas (****)and leaves the
entire body balanced, deeply relaxed and refreshed. The massage medium
used is either Ghee or a traditional ayurvedic oil chosen to suit the
Dosha of the client.
While
the treatment is good for everyone, it is particularly appreciated by
those who spend long hours on their feet and those who do a lot of
walking or running. Some of the benefits that may be experienced are:
-
Enhanced joint mobility in lower limbs
-
Increased strength & stamina in lower limbs
-
Detoxification of internal organs
-
Improved blood & lymphatic circulation
-
Reduced levels of stress, anxiety & depression
-
Increased Prana (life force energy)
-
Balances innate energy
-
Relaxes tired feet and the whole body
Before
a first treatment the client may complete a questionnaire to determine
her or his Dosha so that the treatment can be individualised.
A full
treatment lasts one hour and costs £30 - it can also be combined with Indian
Head Massage for Total Balancing.
*Ayurveda
is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘science’ or ‘wisdom of life’ – it is an
ancient philosophy which originated in the East several thousand years
ago and which is based on a deep understanding of eternal truths about
the human body, mind & spirit.
**Marmas are special energy points on the body similar to acupuncture points.
Through manipulation of these points Prana (vital energy) can be
directed for health, well-being and personal transformation.
***
Chakras: There are seven principle Chakras which are perceived to be
centres of energy located along the midline of the body – any blockages
or imbalances in these Chakras can result in disorder in mind or body.
****Doshas:
Ayurvedic medicine is based on the concept of the three Doshas – bodily
energies which influence all living matter & mental energies too. It is
believed that any imbalance will lead to a disorder in the body or mind
